Allegheny River Conservation Plan

This Plan covers 75 miles of the Allegheny River from Emlenton Borough in Venango County
to Harmar Township in Allegheny County. The study 'corridor' includes the river,
riverfront municipalities, and any other communities, businesses,
organizations, individuals, or landowners who wish to be involved.

Study Committee

This project began in the fall of 2003 with study committee meetings.
Committee members are volunteers from local businesses, organizations, and governments,
as well as individuals. They help guide the direction of the Plan, offer suggestions for
public participation, distribute information to their groups or communities, and review drafts of the Plan.

Public Meetings

2004

In the spring of 2004, four public meetings were held to introduce the Plan and to gather input
about the river and its resources. As a result of those meetings, a newsletter was developed
to allow interested citizens and groups to view others' opinions about the river.

2005

The final round of public meetings was held in June 2005, at which the draft Plan was discussed.
A newsletter announcing the public meetings was distributed in May, 2005.

FINAL Allegheny River Conservation Plan

DCNR has approved the Allegheny River Conservation Plan.
PEC is now petitioning DCNR to list the Allegheny River on the statewide Rivers Registry.
Projects listed in the Plan are then eligible for implementation funding.
